Te Papapa Preschool would like to celebrate Matariki in 2017 with all our whanau. Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars also known as the Pleiades. It rises in mid-winter and for many Māori, it heralds the start of a new year. Matariki literally means the ‘eyes of god’ (mata ariki) or ‘little eyes’ (mata riki).

This year we created discovered about planting/harvesting, the stars and planets, arts and crafts and learned waiata to support our growing understanding Matariki. We finished off our celebration with a feast fit for kings and chatted away about all that we added to our kete over the last month.
